Description
2020 EZZY WAVE – Powerful, light, maneuverable, effortless, Wave sail.
When testing gear in Maui in spring of 2019, David Ezzy swore me (Jon M) to secrecy about his new WAVE sail design ideas. He said he was super excited about incorporating a new type of window in his sails and a desire to have one wave sail solution for most windsurfing conditions and locations of use. This new offering from Ezzy is a combination of the power and stability of the Zeta with the lightness and handling of the Elite. The result is a sail that’s ultra-maneuverable and lightweight that also has better grunt in the light winds and better stability on the strong, gusty days. Pro rider Graham Ezzy claims he’s sailing faster, better, and with more confidence. These sails are so much lighter compared to the Elite, and when a gust hits, the sail simply accelerates without feeling heavy in the hands as it fills up with wind. This sail is also powerful enough to get around in strong currents and onshore winds but also light and maneuverable enough to move around effortlessly on the wave—for onshore, sideshore, down-the-line.
The Ezzy Wave is built to their notoriously high quality standards while coming in about 200 grams lighter, per sail, than the 2019 Elite. Weight reductions came in a number of areas. David Ezzy replaced the vinyl window with Spectra-reinforced X-ply, and the clew design is lighter, which in addition to saving overall weight, reduces the swing weight. For comparison, the new 4.7 is now the same weight as last year’s Elite 4.2, making the Ezzy Wave one of the lightest wave sails in the world.
